Possibly the greatest single attempt to discuss all U.S. coinage, including colonial and private coinages, in a single volume. Supplementary material includes a glossary, bibliography, metrological information, indices and a "How to Use This Book" section. While some have focused on the text's occasional errors and the volume's production problems, it would be tough to name another reference work that includes so much solid information. While not the final word on any subject, it should certainly be referred to at the beginning of any numismatic project that falls within its scope.
