Binghamton & Johnson City: 1958–1964. Nineteen issues, complete, plus the second issue of the firm’s Coins of Great Britain catalogue. 8vo, self-covered, as published. Eleven issues (Empire Topics Nos. 1, 5, 7, 8 and 10; Empire Review Nos. 14–18; Coins of Great Britain, second issue) are signed or initialed by Jim Ruddy, with a handwritten Post-It note enclosed indicating that these were his desk copies. Accompanied by a printed invitation to a cocktail party and reception held by the firm on May 17, 1962 at the Arlington Hotel in Binghamton. All housed in a custom-made blue linen clamshell box with two gilt-lettered black spine labels. Individual catalogues range from very good to fine; box fine. Item #7799
Jim Ruddy’s desk copies of most of the issues of the Empire Coins Company’s periodical fixed price list, since completed, with another publication from that firm. The Post-It note, signed by Ruddy, reads: “Each of these were kept at my desk for reference during the ‘life’ of the price list then saved.” The “Empire” series ceased publication shortly before Bowers and Ruddy joined forces with other coin dealerships and individuals in 1965 to form Paramount International Coin Corporation, the first publicly owned American coin firm.
