Kutztown: 1924. First edition. Small 4to, later blue cloth, with remnants of original gilt-lettered cloth mounted. 289, (1) pages; 16 plates; errata sheet tipped in; interleaved. Occasional annotations in pencil; various inserts laid in (see comments). Near fine. Item #6569

Burdette Johnson and Eric P. Newman’s copy of the first edition of this pioneering work. The inserts include handwritten notes on St. Louis Civil War tokens, a lengthy article on Russ Rulau’s work on the series clipped from the March 23, 1961 issue of Coin World, and a copy of the Fuld & Davis subject index to the Adams photographs, inscribed to Newman by Melvin Fuld. A most interesting copy, which has been professionally rebacked, with the original cloth mounted over a new binding, to better preserve it. Clain-Stefanelli 14031*.
