An exceptional set of Prou’s classic work on the Merovingian coinage, one of a small number of copies printed on special papier chiffon, handsomely bound in two volumes. Prou’s masterwork, published as the first volumes in the Catalogue de la monnaies françaises de la Bibliothèque Nationale series, remains enormously important, and is quite rare. The plates are far superior to those in the reprints, and the paper used in this special edition is simply exquisite. Clain-Stefanelli 5769.* Grierson 119. Ex Alain Poinsignon Library.
