Jeremiah Colburn was one of the few people willing to assume the responsibility for the publication of the American Journal of Numismatics when that burden was assumed by the Boston Numismatic Society in 1870. As always seems to be the case with such things, it was a thankless job, and Colburn’s postcards are responding to Cleveland’s complaints that his copies of the journal were damaged in the mail.
