New York State Museum, Bulletin 73. The author cites Betts and Leroux and carried on an extensive correspondence with Robert W. McLachlan. In a substantial chapter entitled ìHonorary Medals and Gorgets,î Beauchamp, while expressing high regard for McLachlan, enumerates differences with him on several key points expressed in the latterís 1883 article entitled ìThe Montreal Indian Medal.î McLachlan was quite favorably impressed with the Beauchamp work at hand, terming it a ìmost learned and exhaustive monograph.î This, however, did not prevent him from strongly countering Beauchampís arguments in a 1905 American Journal of Numismatics article with the same title as his 1883 work (an early manuscript of this article was sold in the 1994 Kolbe/Spink Sale, lot 595). A major work of considerable numismatic interest, Metallic Ornaments is quite scarce and is rarely offered in numismatic circles.
