Paris: 21 février 1870 et jours suivants. 8vo, original printed paper covers. (8), 140 pages; 1615 lots; 1 albumen photographic plate depicting an elaborate 16th-century shield tipped in; 3 engraved plates by Dardel depicting coins. All but perhaps 100 lots hand-priced and named. Very worn, with spine separating into signatures and some chipping. Good. Item #5833
The only copy we have ever encountered with an original photographic plate depicting the extraordinary 16th-century shield included at the last minute in the catalogue. The catalogue itself is scarce, and rarely encountered with names. The photograph is extremely early for a sale catalogue, with the first photographically illustrated numismatic auction catalogue having been published in 1868 by German coin dealer Carl Fieweger. While the condition of this copy could be better, it remains important. Babelon 223.
