No place or date of issue: (1951–1952). Three glossy photographic plates depicting 27 obverses and 35 reverses. Plates 1 and 2 are approximately 19 by 13.5 cm; Plate 3 is approximately 23 by 13.5 cm. Loose as issued. Fine. Item #5632
These plates were prepared to accompany, as halftones, Newman’s monograph on Varieties of the Fugio Cent, published as the July–August 1952 issue of Wayte Raymond’s Coin Collector’s Journal. Richard Picker and Eric P. Newman were apparently involved in the preparation and distribution of several sets of the photographic images offered here. While the Fugio series was first researched extensively by Damon Douglas, Newman was the first to publish a thorough treatment of the series. These three photographs are of excellent quality and, as such, are still quite useful though rarely obtainable. We last offered a set in our 69th sale in 1997 where a set sold for $350 hammer.
