1806 NEWSPAPER REPORT OF COMMODORE PREBLE’S CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL.

Boston: Published by John Park, July 11, 1806. Intact newspaper of 4 pages printed at typical tabloid size. Prints a letter from Commodore Edward Preble accepting his Congressional gold medal, in the first column of page 3. Removed from previous binding, but spine mostly intact. Very good. Item #5590

A contemporary newspaper report, printing Edward Preble’s letter dated June 17, 1806 to the Secretary of the Navy, acknowledging receipt of the gold medal awarded him by Congress for his victory against the forces at Tripoli. Preble’s medal is Julian NA-3, and was originally struck in gold and bronze, with silver strikings prepared later.
