Hertford: 1874. Small 8vo [22 by 14.5 cm], finely bound in brown antiqued quarter calf, boards decoratively patterned in pink, gold, purple and cream; spine with two raised bands, ruled and decorated in gilt; red spine label, gilt. viii, (2), 38 pages; 5 fine photographically printed plates of coins. Minor internal wear to corners; generally near fine in a splendid binding. Item #5583
A very scarce publication, featuring five autotype plates illustrating Umayyad silver coins. As the first volume of the Catalogue of Oriental Coins in the British Museum wasn’t published until the following year, this would appear to be the first photographically illustrated work on Islamic coins.
