The second part of the John J. Ford, Jr. American Numismatic Library will be sold at public auction on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the Long Beach, California Coin Convention, along within a separate cataloguethe Craig and Ruanne Smith Library (a portion of both libraries will also be sold via mail bid auction on June 6, 2005). The Ford Library sale is being held in association with the New York coin firm Stacks. The estimates of the 1,150 lots in both catalogues total approximately
one half million dollars. Many great American rarities, as well
as classic works on ancient and foreign numismatic topics, are
featured in the two catalogues, among them: the first American
Numismatic Association president's superb leather-bound set of
The Numismatist, including the first six volumes, 1888-1993; a
very fine leather-bound set of the American Journal of Numismatics;
a cloth and a leather-bound edition of the American Bond Detector;
a number of Chapman Brothers auction catalogues with original
photographic plates, and a number of the firms unique Bid
Books; important correspondence written by John Ford, Walter Breen,
and other important American numismatists; an extensive selection
of early American Directories; an original copy of Attinellis
1876 Numisgraphics; an exciting American Bank Note Company featuring
over sixty vignettes, many utilized on Latin American paper money;
